We want you to experience the essence of HIRUMA, and that includes immersing yourself in our language, Basque (or Euskera as we call it). HIRUMA is a place where Basque, one of the oldest languages in Europe, is spoken with passion and pride. As a living language, Basque is an essential part of our identity and heritage, and we want to share it with all those who visit us.
Basque is a fundamental part of our identity, of who we are. In our streets, in every conversation, in every corner of HIRUMA, you will hear and see that the Basque language is thriving. It is a living, breathing language and has a history that is as rich as the landscape that surrounds us.
We invite you to be part of this unique experience, to enjoy our language and (why not?) maybe even try to learn a few words. Not only will you be enriching yourself culturally, you will also be helping to keep an ancient legacy alive.
Basque is spoken widely in HIRUMA. Here are some of the events at which you can experience Basque tradition and identity first-hand (folk dances, txistu flute players, Basque rural sports, etc.).

In HIRUMA you will find the three temples of Basque architecture, spirituality and cultural heritage (contemporary Basque art). Enjoy some well-earned peace and tranquillity in the natural areas surrounding these places of worship.
This sanctuary is one of the Top 10 places to visit in the Basque region and is known as the little Vatican due to its Italian Baroque style, which is not at all common in the Basque Country. The sanctuary was built around the house in which Saint Ignatius of Loyola was born. Its construction began in the 17th century and was completed in the 18th century.
The first documented parish church in this part of inland Gipuzkoa. You can also have a look round the La Antigua Visitors’ Centre. On the 2nd of July, a well-known procession takes place, and dancers perform the ezpatadantza (sword dance) in honour of the Virgin Mary.
The Sanctuary dedicated to the patron saint of Gipuzkoa is located against an impressive backdrop of rocky massifs and deep ravines and gorges, in which spirituality, culture and nature come together in a unique way. Its avant-garde style broke away from the architectural tenets of the period.

Places to see include Insausti Palace, FLOREAGA Palace, Idiáquez House (also known as the Black House), Balda Tower House, La Asunción Parish Church, the last romantic or symphonic organ built by the great Aristide Cavaillé-Coll (1898) in the parish church and the Jorge Oteiza pelota courts.
